Building an email list is one of the most valuable assets for you, your book, and your business. But how can you catch the eye of your audience?

If you don’t have training as a designer, this might seem like an expensive project. It may feel as if you are outmatched by bigger businesses or those with a bigger budget. If you have been feeling discouraged, there are tools to help you and they won’t cost more than a small château in France.

Canva to the Rescue

Canva, for the uninitiated, is an app that works on computers, tablets, and smartphones. The beauty of Canva is it is simple to use and has a wealth of pre-formatted templates to help you get started. Plus a rich library of professional graphics, video, music, presentations, social posts, and an extensive library of fonts, images, and effects.

You can make a simple social post or a complex presentation, record your voice, add music, and apply fancy transitions, all without training in design, video production, or recording technology. They included all the hard stuff in the behind-the-scenes workings of the app.

Canva saves to the cloud automagically. You can create folders in Canva to organize your files like you do on your computer.

You can upload images, photos, graphics, and fonts into your Canva account. And, when you upload an image into a design, you can select the colors from the image to use in your design!

Brand Kits

If you have a logo, import a jpeg or png file into Canva and create a Brand Kit based on the image. Select or upload your fonts to your Brand Kit. Now you can consistently use your logo, fonts, and colors in your designs. Everything is in one place, with easy access for a consistent brand.

Use a Canva Template or Create Your Own

There are thousands of beautiful, professional designs to help you get started. If you need a banner for Facebook, YouTube, or LinkedIn, there are templates of the right size. If you opt to upgrade from a free to a paid Canva account, you can copy a design and resize it in seconds. I have a paid account because I repurpose content and post on different social channels and I use the resize feature often. The time saved more than offsets the cost for a pro account.
